The fights!!!

Jiya is gradually turning into such a toughie. Till the time she was 8 months or so, we were thankful for having at least one easy going kid in the house. She has overtaken Vansh in the screams and the feisty mannerisms. And the problem right now is that the age that she is at, she doesn't even understand. So while I repeat myself at least a dozen times, if not more, to not throw something when she is done with that, she doesn't understand. I have tried converting it to a positive as well telling her to put the sipper cup on the table when she is done drinking but may be its just 5% better than the negative one.

She follows Vansh around wanting to play with the exact same things as he does, screams and cries loudly for those and is done with it exactly 5 seconds after he gives it to her and moves on to the next thing he has laid his hands on, and this is only if Vansh is in an altruistic mood, otherwise God save our household!

And I am nervous about handling the whole thing. If I jump in, the incidents seem to increase and Jiya screams all the more at trivial things knowing that I'll come and she'll get a chance of playing with something. And I don't know if its okay to let them be. Because Jiya has now started to snatch Vansh's hair and although Vansh knows to keep his hands to himself but retorts back when she does that. And like I said Jiya doesn't as yet understand that she's not supposed to do that. And of course hearing to those screams without doing anything about them is disturbing.

Here's a video I started shooting as I thought it was one of those occasions where they were being real nice sharing and passing that box back and forth to each other, taking turns talking in it and laughing. Ultimately it did end up in the REAL thing.

Please do drop in your suggestions. And if there aren't any, just enjoy the video. I have to admit its rather funny!!

OMG Neera! I came here thinking it's been a while since I visited your (well most) blog - and this was SUCH a treat. And seriously I think I don't have even have to write posts on KB/KG anymore - I can just copy paste! :) Same thing happens in our house. Well she has not started pulling on KG's hair - but she certainly grabs what ever KB has. But KB who used to very gentle now has learned to fight back - he just runs after her and grabs it back. Of course I have to be close by because one or the other ends up falling down in the tussle...no way out Neera. Just the way they grow up I think being so close in age. KG is also very fiesty and it is really amazing to see that a one year old can learn the art of dodging so well - my god - she grabs a balloon that KB has in his hand and just runs this way and that trying to avoid him...I have to take a video like this and send it to you for fun! :) So you can enjoy not being the parent but just enjoying the fun! :) Adorable video of the two of them...so cute isn't it how they were playing in the beginning...
Love to them both!

suma: You bet!! Look at her carrying on with the game and then realizing Vansh has ran to me and crying and then doing some drama herself!

dipali: Oh no dipali! I was counting on you for some expert tips :( Kidding :) Sigh!! Another part of parenting without instructions!

preethi: Ya ya go ahead! Its ur turn now! I have had my share at Nantu's cheekiness off late ;)

deepali: Absolutely! Such a brilliant director I am! Your comment made me laugh :) Hugs to Moon :) - yehi problem hai - Jiya sabko acchi lagte lagte hi kaafi kuchh kar jaati hai!

I think I can copy-paste your post and noon's comment. Our kids are in the same age group and show very similar behavior. One minute they are cuddling and hugging. I am all smiles, leave them there to get some chore done, next minute they are fighting over the same book or toy.
Exact same thing happens here, the little one grabs it and runs away. Older one comes crying..

Very cute video..

ddmom: Huh!! What were we thinking when we went ahead and had the second one so early! I think Vansh fooled me by being the easiest toddler till 18 mos and then had a 180 degrees transformation overnight! The second one turned out to be tough right from infancy!

Neera, I have friends who kids are 5 years apart, another whose kids are 7 years apart. Don't see much of a difference in terms of not getting along. The difference is, when the kids are too far apart, there is no less closeness as the older one cannot relate to a lot of things the younger one does. And parents tend to expect too much from the older one because they are old enough!
So, in hindsight, may be its for good that we had them this close :)

Saw you link on Rishab's blog. Loved teh video. My son is 16 months old and he still throws everything, just for the heck of it :-(

ddmom: Am with u. If u were to put me in the same situation again, would do the same thing. Just that the fights get to me at times! Am becoming better at tuning them out :)

ruchika: Welcome dear! Yeah I remember Vansh became better at at least understanding what I am saying (or may be at following it) at 18 months. Lets hope ur son gets there soon :)
